Cross-Institutional Team Promotes Taiwan's Global Research Visibility by Integrating AI, Smart Healthcare, and Cybersecurity
When artificial intelligence intersects with the millennia-old practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pulse diagnosis, a new gateway to smart healthcare is flung wide open. Representing the "TCM Pulse Diagnosis AI Visualization Engineering Research Team"—a cross-institutional alliance between Asia University (AU) and China Medical University (CMU)—Professor Shing-Chern You, Distinguished Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering and Director of the Cybersecurity Research Center at AU, traveled to the University of Luxembourg from July 1 to 3, 2026. Attending the 20th International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing (IMIS 2026), Professor You presented the team's pioneering research on AI-driven TCM pulse diagnosis visualization. The breakthrough study was honored with the conference's prestigious Best Paper Award, successfully placing Taiwan's smart healthcare research under the global spotlight.
The award-winning paper focuses on "AI Visualization of TCM Pulse Diagnosis." Its defining innovation lies in its approach to transforming pulse diagnosis data—which historically relied heavily on a practitioner’s subjective experience and clinical intuition—into analyzable, presentable, and verifiable smart medical data through AI models, data analytics, and visualization engineering. In essence, the research team has propelled TCM pulse diagnosis from a practice of "fingertip perception" into one of "data interpretation," unlocking brand-new trajectories for the modernization of traditional medicine, AI-assisted clinical diagnosis, and broader smart healthcare applications.
This monumental achievement is the collaborative fruit of cross-institutional, cross-disciplinary, and biomedical-engineering integration rather than the work of a single field. Professor Shing-Chern You served as the first author of the paper, with Professor Ching-Liang Hsieh from China Medical University acting as the corresponding author, and Director Chih-Sheng Chen from the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Asia University Hospital serving as the co-corresponding author. Peiyu Hsu, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at AU, spearheaded the AI model development, programming, and experimental analysis. Additionally, Director Kuo-Chin Huang and Professor Mei-Yao Wu from CMU facilitated the Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and clinical research, while Distinguished Professor Chin-Ling Chen from Chaoyang University of Technology assisted with paper guidance and revisions. Together, this joint effort vividly demonstrates the profound capabilities of the AU-CMU alliance in integrating academia, industry, research, and clinical medicine.
