Three-Year MOU Focuses on Joint Research, International Publications, and Talent Exchanges to Expand Global Academic Networks

In response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the cross-border nature of cybersecurity threats, Asia University is actively expanding its international cybersecurity research collaborations. The university has established a three-year partnership with the Global ICT Convergence Security Research Center at Kookmin University in South Korea. Integrating their respective research strengths in information security and ICT convergence security, both institutions will promote joint research, international publications, and research projects. The collaboration will also expand exchanges among professors, researchers, and students, further connecting international scholars and research teams to deepen Taiwan-South Korea cooperation in cybersecurity research and talent cultivation.
Asia University President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai stated that information security has become an indispensable foundation for the development of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and smart technologies. As cybersecurity threats transcend national borders, industries, and application domains, related research increasingly demands cross-border, cross-institutional, and interdisciplinary collaboration. South Korea possesses a deep foundation in ICT and technology R&D. Deepening cooperation with Kookmin University not only helps leverage the research capabilities of both sides but also creates more opportunities for Asia University faculty and students to participate in international research and connect with the global academic community.
President Tsai emphasized that signing the MOU is not the conclusion of cooperation, but rather the beginning of substantive collaboration. The true value of international cooperation ultimately rests on tangible research outcomes and talent development. Moving forward, Asia University will actively facilitate visits and exchanges involving professors, researchers, and students from both sides. By driving joint research, international paper publications, and collaborative projects, the university aims to help faculty and students enhance their professional expertise, international mobility, and global vision through hands-on participation in cross-border research.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at Kookmin University in South Korea on July 8. The agreement was executed by Distinguished Professor Chen Hsing-Chung, Director of the Cybersecurity Center at Asia University, and Professor Ilsun You, Director of the Global ICT Convergence Security Research Center at Kookmin University. The ceremony was witnessed by Professor Okyeon Yi, Director of the Graduate School of Cryptography and Information Security at Kookmin University, and Lu Chia-yen, CEO of Solution Intelligence Co., Ltd.
Under the MOU, the three-year partnership encompasses faculty, researcher, and student exchanges, joint research initiatives, international academic paper publications, collaborative research projects, educational cooperation, and international talent cultivation. Both research centers will designate dedicated representatives and contact windows to coordinate initiatives based on research and exchange demands, ensuring the bilateral partnership moves beyond a formal agreement into sustainable research and educational outcomes.

Moving forward, both centers will combine their respective expertise in information security and ICT convergence security. Expanding from personnel exchanges into joint research, international publications, and collaborative projects, the partnership will increase opportunities for Taiwanese and South Korean research teams to tackle frontier issues and produce joint scholarly results.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, smart manufacturing, and digital transformation has positioned information security as a crucial strategic area in global technology research. Beyond cybersecurity research and talent exchanges, both parties are incorporating global academic networking into their collaborative strategy. During the visit, Asia University representatives exchanged views with Kookmin University's Performance Management Team on global higher education development trends, international academic networks, connections with global experts, and strategies for elevating international visibility. Moving forward, both institutions will leverage their existing international cooperation foundations to expand links with universities, scholars, and research teams worldwide.
Through this three-year partnership, Asia University is transitioning from isolated exchange activities to sustained international research collaboration. Centered on joint research, talent development, and global academic networking, the university continues to deepen cybersecurity research ties between Taiwan and South Korea, turning international cooperation into cumulative and lasting research achievements while expanding its participation and influence in the global cybersecurity research community.
